Passing on the Torch - scented Candle

Organised by Hong Kong Fishing Culture Association Limited, Bottoms Up Communication Limited, rcube Design Studio

This design concept draws inspiration from the age-old Chinese tradition of passing on the torch. The candle's wick is made using ropes from the fishing village of Aberdeen in Hong Kong, which have been processed and transformed. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it also aims to reinvent the traditional candle, a Chinese illuminating tool, into a modern favorite—aromatherapy candles. The candle's exterior is crafted using cement and incorporates our fluid art technique. Just as life continues to thrive and time brings change, the spirit of the people of Hong Kong remains unwavering. This is the message we hope to convey. The concept harmonizes tradition and modernity, utilizing ropes from Aberdeen and concrete materials to create a fusion of elements. By combining the functionality of scented candles with the fluid art technique, we aim to celebrate the preservation of traditional culture and pay homage to the resilient spirit of the people of Hong Kong. Through this design, we aspire to evoke an appreciation for traditional culture while expressing our reverence for the Hong Kong people's steadfast adherence to traditional values. Passing on the Torch - scented Candle represents a fusion of traditional and modern elements, as well as a tribute to the people of Hong Kong. It seeks to convey the value of heritage through the traditional candle, transformed into a contemporary aromatherapy experience. Through this design, we intend to spark interest in traditional culture and showcase the enduring spirit of the people of Hong Kong.
